Lesser Horseshoe Bat - Rhinolophus hipposideros
Since the discovery of a hibernating Lesser Horseshoe bat in the Hodder valley area, we have been organising surveys to try and identify summer roosts and areas of Lesser Horseshoe activity.
We are aiming to answer the following research questions:
- Where are the summer roosts for this species in Bowland?
- How many bats are there?
- Where is the main hibernation site?
- Is this a recent arrival or a remnant population from the former northern range of the species?
DNA research is being undertaken with the kind assistance for Dr Robin Allaby, Warwick University.
