It’s the time for bat rescues

After a fairly quiet spring and early summer it’s now all go on the bat rescue front with plenty of grounded adult and baby bats needing help.

This year has so far all been pipistrelles with a sudden surge of baby bats in the second half of July. We’ve had a couple of roosts where the youngsters just keep coming which looks like the mothers may have headed off elsewhere either through an inability to feed their young due to the poor weather we’ve been experiencing or due to them moving roosts due to the change in weather and leaving babies their unable to carry.

This year calls have come from Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Oswaldtwistle Rawtenstall, Bacup, Weir, Clitheroe, Grindleton, Foulridge, Barnoldswick, Burnley, Padiham, Nelson and Colne.

We’ve also been responding to calls in the Calder Valley mainly Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Mytholmroyd due to a lack of cover there.
