Wycoller Meeting - Tuesday 8th July 5 members met in the car park at 8pm, with a decision being made to carry out a survey and give new members the opportunity to learn what is involved. As usual the sky lightened putting dusk back so so time was spent scoping further up the valley away from the village assessing potential roost sites. By the time we returned to the Visitor Centre small numbers of commuting pipistrelles were observed and traced back until we had located the roost. Dedication to count the emergence was required due to the amount of midges out, we stopped after 30ish bats. Although we didn't realise it at the time there were also commuting Noctules about, a fact only later picked up when analysing the Pettersson 240x recordings. As it got darker we headed over to a known Natterers roost, with good opportunities to observe the tell tale signs for identification. Heading back to the cars, a faint echolocation was picked up, which was later identified as a Brown long eared bat. Not bad for a nights work.
