Common Pipistrelle babies successfully raised and released in 2011

In 2011 East Lancashire Bat Group rescued bats from: Burnley, Hapton, Colne, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Rawtenstall, Weir, Clitheroe, Chatburn, Gisburn, Foulridge, Barrowford, Nelson, Colne, Haslington, Whitewell, Great Harwood, Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Huncoat, Altham,  Pleasington, Rishton, Blackburn, Darwen, Sabden, Lomeshaye, Whalley, Clayton Le Moors, Bolton by Bowland, Earby, Kelbrook, Trawden, Worsthorne, Bacup, Waterfoot, Helmshore, Belthorn and Hoddleston.

Common Pipistrelle were the commonest species, closely followed by Soprano Pipistrelle. Whiskered, Daubenton’s, Natterer’s and Brown Long eared bats were also rescued and later released back into the wild.

Sometimes bats simply become weak during periods of low insect availability or are found in houses where they roost in summer. Baby bats sometimes become seperated from their mums and are usually found between May and August when maternity roosts gather.

You can help greatly by picking the bat up using either a tea towel of wearing gloves, placing it in a small cardboard box with access to some water and keeping it in a cool place. We will arrange to pick it up as soon as possible.
