Bat Group Projects

Bat Group Projects

We’ve currently got 6 separate research projects on the go:

Lime Kilns Survey

Ongoing survey work studying the use of Lime Kilns and their importance to bat populations.

Lesser Horseshoe Surveys

Activity and hibernation surveys in the Bowland area to identify possible Lesser Horseshoe Summer Roosts and foraging areas. Further work is concentrating on DNA study of droppings to gather more information about the origin of this population.

Upland Bats

Contrary to a popular myth amongst some bat workers there are records of different bat species using upland sites both for foraging and roosting. We intend to target some sites for activity surveys during summer.

More information to follow.

East Lancashire Bat Box Scheme

A number of box schemes are in place and will be monitored to see how many and what species of bat are using them.

More information to follow.

Autumn Swarming Site Survey

As part of the Bats Underground work we’ll be revisiting three sites to assess them for autumn swarming.

More information to follow.
